Support works carried out at the Red House, Smithfield Market for PAYE Stonework & Restoration Ltd with design by RDG Engineering.
The Red House was one of the first purpose built cold stores in the UK, it was opened in 1898 and was still in use in the 1970’s.
The building fell into disrepair and internal demolition was carried out to remove the existing floors with JDC Scaffolding replacing three floors with designed shores together with an additional shoring and propping sytem to the existing roof.
Each level was built with an average of 55 old fashioned steel Unit Beams and 144 Band and Plates drilled and fixed to the existing walls Ties tested in shear.
It may look like Kerplunk but it is a work of art!
